Media Award - 2017

Hannah Anderson - Evening News Anchor

The Boards Association presents one award each year on a statewide basis to recognize a print, audio, or visual media effort about Wisconsin Technical Colleges that best meets the following four criteria:

  • The nomination portrays today’s technical college learning environment positively, with originality and creativity;
  • It portrays the benefits of technical college education on individuals and their communities;
  • It reports positively about the technical college's service and contributes to a better public understanding of the college’s mission; and, finally,
  • It thoroughly covers the subject matter in a stimulating and clear fashion.

We were honored to review the nominations for several really extraordinary submissions this year, and the committee would be proud to have selected any of the nominations. We received eleven nominations for this year’s Media Award. They are:

This Year's Winner: Hannah Anderson - Evening News Anchor, WSAW-TV in Wausau

Hannah Anderson's report, Making the Culinary Cut was aired November 14th, 2016. It features the students and instructors of the NTC Culinary Program.
 

Hannah Anderson joined the WSAW-TV news team as a multimedia reporter in June 2013. She currently co-anchors the 5 p.m. broadcast and anchors the new, 9 p.m. broadcast on WZAW Fox News at 9. Before making the transition to nights in September 2015, Hannah co-anchored for a year and a half on Sunrise 7, which earned "Best Morning Newscast" from the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association in 2015.

A Roseau, Minn. native, Hannah graduated from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn. with a major in multimedia communication and journalism, and a minor in business. Hannah loves being involved in the Wausau community. She helped coach the Central Wisconsin Storm Varsity Girls Hockey team in 2014 and 2015, and works with the YWCA on events to empower young women among other organizations in the community.
