Our Friend - Pat Costello (1946-2016)

Our friend Pat Costello passed away suddenly at home on Friday February 18, 2016. He will be remembered for his kind and gentle nature and for his passion for technical college education. His reputation of dependability and credibility is second to none. 

He was a member of the Mid-State Technical College Board of Directors for over 20 years, serving 75% of that time in a board officer role: Chairperson twice, Vice Chairperson five times, Secretary once, and Treasurer eight times.  He also served as longstanding chair of the college’s Finance & Audit Committee.

He was a member of the Human Resources Committee since 1996.  In 2007, he joined the Association’s Board of Directors, serving as Secretary/Treasurer, Vice President, and President.  As the Association’s President, he served as a member of the Wisconsin Technical College System Presidential Search Committee.    He presented at Wisconsin Technical College System Board meetings on behalf of the Association, and has reported at various technical college district board meetings.  He and three others presented “The Pathways Project - A Collaboration between Education, Social Services and the Community” at the 2013 ACCT Leadership Congress meeting in Boston.  He also spoke on behalf of district board members during the kickoff to the Wisconsin Technical College System centennial celebration at Gateway Technical College. In 2013 Pat was named the Association’s Board Member of the Year by his fellow trustees.

Mid-State Technical College and Foundation Board Memorial was previously established should anyone care to contribute in Pat’s name. The Combined memorial funds of previous District and Foundation Board of Directors provide assistance to Mid-State Technical College students enrolled full-time in any Associate Degree program who maintains academic standing.

Pat Costello Obituary

Patrick Joseph Costello 69, of Wisconsin Rapids passed away suddenly at home on February 18, 2016. He was born to Gerald and Janet (Arnstin) Costello on February 21, 1946. He is survived by his wife Gloria, daughter Stacy Costello, Milwaukee, two brothers James (Nadie) Fitchberg, WI, Michael (Dagmara) Greendale, WI, many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Dennis.

Patrick was an optimistic and caring individual. He was part of the Optimist Club, was on the Wood County board as a Supervisor, and also held a seat on the board for MATC from 1993 to present. He was a loving man and his family was his pride and joy. He also served his country proudly in the United States Air Force.

Visitation will be held at Higgins Funeral Home on Sunday, February 21, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and again on Monday, February 22, 2016 at St. Alexander Catholic Church, Port Edwards from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by a Mass at 11 a.m. officiated by Father John Swing.
